Homemade Cola Soda!

Another holiday season is upon us and this time of year always seems to bring with it an excess of sugar, processed foods, and more chemicals than our bodies know what to do with!
We still enjoy indulging in some treats this time of year, but it’s more fun when we can control the amount of chemicals ingested.
Our family made the viral Coca Cola recipe and it’s truly amazing how close to the store bought soda this truly tastes (without the nasty high fructose corn syrup, artificial colors, phosphoric acid, etc.)! When we’re craving soda, we will definitely be making this again!!!!

Homemade Cola Syrup
Ingredients:
1 Cup Organic Coconut Sugar or Organic Brown Sugar
1 Cup Filtered Water
2 Organic Cinnamon Sticks
Peel of 1 Organic Lemon
Peel of 1 Organic Orange
Peel of 1 Organic Lime
¼ Teaspoon Organic Ground Nutmeg
1 Teaspoon Bitters
1 Teaspoon Pure Vanilla Extract
Unflavored Sparkling Water
Ice — for serving
Instructions:
Combine Sugar + Water in a small pot and bring to a simmer.
Add Cinnamon Sticks, Citrus Peels, and Nutmeg.
Simmer 10–15 minutes, until slightly thickened.
Add Bitters and Vanilla Extract and stir until mixed thoroughly.
Strain and let cool in a glass jar in the refrigerator.
Once your mixture is cooled, mix 2–3 tablespoons of syrup with 1 cup of sparkling water.
Adjust sweetness or strength to taste.
